Staffing coverage

Staffing coverage and shortage visibility

Coverage is more useful than simply counting assigned names. ElShift compares assignments with the demand configured for each shift and, when locations are enabled, the minimum staffing required at each location.

In short

ElShift tracks shift coverage against required headcount and optional location-specific staffing minimums. If eligible employees cannot satisfy the demand, managers can see that the schedule is short and inspect diagnostic reasons.

Define the staffing target

Required headcount establishes how many employee slots a shift needs. Location minimums can make that target more specific by requiring a certain number of employees in particular locations.

Distinguish headcount from eligibility

Five employees in the organization does not mean five employees are valid candidates for every shift. Leave, hours, work patterns, preferences, locations, and transition rules can narrow the eligible pool.

Use shortages as operational information

A visible shortage is useful because it tells the manager where intervention is needed: change demand, find more coverage, adjust an input, or make a deliberate manual decision.
