Working rules

Working rules for safer schedule planning

Operational scheduling often needs guardrails beyond simple availability. ElShift provides configurable working-rule context that managers can use while planning, automatically assigning shifts, and reviewing supported manual schedule changes.

In short

ElShift can apply configurable scheduling rules including weekly-hour limits, minimum rest between shifts, continuous weekly rest context, night-work settings, and shift-transition rules. Auto-Assign uses configured enforcement during scheduling, and supported manual edits are preflighted so managers can see policy exceptions before an allowed override. These controls help planning but do not by themselves establish legal compliance.

Set organization-wide scheduling context

Organizations can configure a timezone, default weekly hours, rest settings, night-work tracking times, and other working-rule preferences used by the scheduling workflow.

Use employee-specific hour modes

Employees can follow the organization default, use an explicit weekly limit, or be treated as unlimited where the workspace configuration allows it.

Check supported manual schedule edits too

Manual assignment, removal, clearing, and supported template changes are reviewed against the projected schedule. ElShift blocks physical integrity failures and surfaces reviewable scheduling-policy exceptions before an allowed manager override.

Manual schedule review can include leave or full-day unavailability, configured availability, weekday or shift preferences, work patterns and rotation, transition rules, weekly-hour limits, inter-shift rest, continuous weekly rest, consecutive-day avoidance, location rules and minimums, and staffing coverage shortages.

Treat the product as a planning tool, not legal advice

Working-rule settings help managers model and review schedules. The correct legal obligations still depend on the organization, jurisdiction, agreements, and real-world circumstances.
